History At Ellenbrook
Jason Crowe - SSA Media

Jamie Olfield tonight has won the A Main of the National Street Stock Title, after winning the C Main, then the B Main before winning the A Main, after losing the lead to Anthony Beare on the last lap.

In an extraordinary race Oldfield defeated Troy Neilson, Damien Amato and Greg Avins.  Beare crashed on the last corner while side by side with Oldfield.

The race started with Anthony Beare as highest qualifier, electing to start on the outside of the front row, in the A Main which was run in the traditional anti clockwise direction.

Beare took the lead, but National Champion Brad McClure who qualified fourth took it from him to lead the early laps of the race which was set at a frantic pace.

Wayne Thomson of Western Australia would be an early casualty.  Starting from position six, Thomson would spin on the opening lap, and would take no part in the race.

McClure and Beare would open a handy lead over Tim Coxall of Western Australia and Evan Wakefield, Shane Kulker and Michael Hamon, who were all fighting for third place.  Behind them, four other drivers were engaged in their own battle, with Damien Amato, Troy Neilson of Victoria, Jason Oldfield and Mick Dann, racing side by side.

Beare chased McClure for eight laps before hitting the front on lap nine, as the race turned into a classic battle for the title, with both drivers having won the event previously.  Coxall remained in third place, holding off the challenge from Wakefield, Amato and Neilson who had moved into sixth place.

After twelve laps the first stoppage occurred when Shane Kulker spun.  Mark Furphy was deemed to be the primary cause and went to the rear.  This would intensify the battle for the lead, as the leaders prior to the stoppage had just caught the back markers.

Beare led the restart, under immense pressure from McClure, who at times hit the front, only to have Beare take it back.

Meanwhile, Jamie Oldfield had moved into fifth place behind Amato after fifteen laps, as Tim Coxall slowly went back through the field, after a great weekend of racing in the qualifying heats.

Beare and McClure continued the battle for supremecy and cleared away from the rest of the field, as Oldield, Amato and Neilson had a great battle raging for third place.

Jamie Oldfield passed both Amato and Neilson on lap twenty two and set out after the leaders, in what even at this point looked destined to provide a thrilling finish.

McClure and Beare meantime continued to trade the lead, and Oldfield caught the pair with ten laps to go, to set up a classic finish to a National Title.

Oldfield passed the defending Champion with ten laps to go, as the three battled for the lead, while Neilson, Amato and Greg Avins along with Michael Hamon were engaged in a battle for the minor placings.

McClure would suffer mechanical problems in the concluding laps and would slowly slip down the order.

This would leave Jamie Oldfield and Anthony Beare to fight out a classic battle, with Oldfield hitting the lead with six laps to go.  Beare though would not be denied, and on several occassions, would level with Oldfield, as one of the largest crowds ever to attend Ellenbrook Speedway, went into a frenzy.

A restart was ordered with three laps to go when one of the back markers stopped in the back straight against the fence.

Jamie Oldfield would lead Beare, Neilson, McClure who was gamely holding fourth, Amato, Avins and Hamon as the race resumed after the second and final stoppage.

Jamie Oldfield held off the challenge of Beare on lap thirty eight, and another challenge on lap thirty nine, but lost the lead on the last lap, as Beare passed Oldfield on the backstraight.  Beare went into turn three, under Oldfield as the pair raced side by side, but Beare would launch into the air on two wheels, before landing and hitting the fence.

Jamie Oldfield crossed the line to be crowned the Champion for the second time, as the crowd became delerious.  Troy Neilson of Victoria drove a great race to finish second, while Damien Amato would finish one second ahead of Greg Avins who finished fourth.

Eleven of the twenty finalists finished an amazing A Main.

Earlier, Jamie Oldfield started the C Main from position seven, a race he led from lap two, and was never troubled in downing Shaun Peters who also transferred to the B Main.  Clint Udecz finished third ahead of Ken McPherson and Paul Joss who filled the minor placings.

The B Main was also an exciting race with numerous leaders throughout the twenty laps.

Odin Smith led the first ten laps, before a restart would lead to his demise with a flat tyre.  Jason Oldfield took the lead as Jamie Oldfield moved into third place, before the brothers engaged in a race for the lead.

Jamie took lead from Jason with five laps remaining, and although Jason Oldfield tried valiantly in the final lap to pass again, he was unsuccessful.  Shaun Reed of Broome drove a quality race to finish third while Lloyd Wallace of South Australia finished fourth.

Mcfadden Takes The Title In Controversial Thriller
Author : SCW Media
Young Northern Territory sensation James McFadden won his first Australian Sprintcar Championship with a drive of maturity beyond his years in front of a huge crowd at Darwin’s Northline Speedway. McFadden inherited the lead on lap 24 after Ryan Farrell who was running second at the time collected Kerry Madsen whilst trying to execute a slide job, sending Madsen careering into the wall before flipping violently.

Driving the Scott Milling owned W25 crewed by his father Dave McFadden, young James was consistently brilliant throughout the weekend. He was followed home by two other unheralded stars of the sport Victoria’s Stephen Bell and West Australia’s Jamie Maiolo.

On the podium to accept the trophy that was just as big as the champion himself, McFadden questioned whether he could hold up the trophy with his arms being so sore after forty laps. “I had a good car throughout and thought I could keep up. It sucks for those guys but it’s good for me” he exclaimed with a smile. “I’ll have to step up my game a bit now i have this” he continued. "I’d like to thank Scott Milling who without i wouldn’t be here, my Father who’s been with me from the go-kart days, My Mum who unfortunately had to head home, Kenny Mac, the guys from Totally Workwear and anyone else that’s helped me throughout my career”.

The race was thrilling from the outset.

Ryan Farrell took the lead coming out of turn 4 from Kerry Madsen and James McFadden.

On the second lap Matt Egel passed Trevor Green for sixth.

One lap later Bell passed McFadden for third.

On lap 4 Bryan Mann clipped Luch Monte and hit the fence in turn 4 and rolled.

The race was red flagged.

Farrell led away at the restart and was hounded by Madsen. There were battles all over the track, Bell and McFadden and then Egel as well as Green, Brazier, Farr and Tatnell who all traded positions for the next 10 laps.

As Farrell and Madsen encountered lapped traffic Madsen drew closer.

Farrell had a moment when he and Jason McIvor got together with McIvor hitting the wall and rolling bringing on the red lights.

On the restart Madsen made a great pass around the outside of Farrell to take the lead.

On lap 24 Farrell tried executing a slide job on Madsen that went completely wrong.

Farrell slid up track and directly into the side on Madsen sending him into the wall, flipping wildly.

Madsen was furious with the move and remonstrated with Farrell who was sent to the rear.

At the restart it was McFadden from Bell, Maiolo, Egel and Green.

McFadden maintained his advantage for the rest of the race with Bell and Maiolo taking the final podium placing’s.

Farrell charged back into sixth from Tatnell, Brazier, Cobby and Dumesny who rounded out the top ten.

N A S R 2010 Driver Development Program
NASR National Office posted Wednesday March 10, 2010.
NASR has great pleasure in announcing that the following drivers have been selected for the 2010 NASR Driver Development Program.

• Liam Dowling – WA
• Jason Kendrick – WA
• Kristin Brown - QLD
• Brent Aprile - QLD
• Andrew Ryder - TAS
• Jason Gantz - SA
• Ty Galley - VIC
• Monique O'Hehir - NSW

Each of the drivers, who are aged between 16 and 21 years, have been selected by their NASR State Office where they have all demonstrated excellent results over the past three years. In addition they have been able to demonstrate that they excellent representatives of speedway with the potential to be future ambassadors of the sport.

The program will be at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra March 16th-18th.

NASR Competition & Operations Manager Paul Trengove, believes this is a great opportunity for NASR to help support young speedway competitors who are looking to improve their performance both on and off the track. For those who attend, it will unlock many of the secrets required to be successful at the elite level and offer a range of practical tools that can be applied throughout their motor sport careers.

The camp will focus on improving individual performance for speedway competitors and will cover topics such as nutrition, cardiovascular activity, strength and conditioning, recovery and psychology.

Although the camp will include some theoretical components, it will be highly interactive with a comprehensive performance report and will provide a number of tools for application away from the AIS. It will also give participants an opportunity to benchmark their performance against previous young speedway drivers as well as recent CAMS Rising Stars from circuit racing.

Australia vs. New Zealand Team Challenge
&
 Australasian Championship
Perth Motorplex
5th 6th March

On Fridays night 5th March race fans at Perth Motorplex witnessed for the first time in the 7 year history of the Trans Tasman Junior Speedway - Australia Vs New Zealand Team Challenge a visiting team take the win on foreign soil.
New Zealand defeated Australia in a convincing  312 points victory with the young Kiwi’s getting  the  dream run – driving  good  competitive cars on   fantastic race track  and  2 times NZ Junior Champion and NZ team captain 82P Jamie  Larson (17yo) given the  ex Haythornthwaite Championship daihatsu charade to pilot.
Australian expectations looked just a bit tentative when at a full practise session Wednesday night Jamie and the rest of the  NZ boys  - 28W Graeme Peter (16yo); 56A Aidan Eustace (15yo); 58R Cory Holmes (15yo); 13W Todd Jenkins (14yo) and 18R   Paul Fergusson(14yo)   took to conditions straight up. In what could only be described as a committed and well executed team effort Team New Zealand took their winning strategy through to the Test Mach to cause the biggest upset on Series record. Team New Zealand – slick professional cool under pressure – A Champion Team!!

For Australia hard charger Jack Alfirevich (14) drove like a man possessed to put in the best performance on night for Aus with great support by the explosive John Terriaca (14) and pocket rocket Laura Byrnes (16). But it was the mechanical woes in the Australian ranks that finally cost the team the result with Scott Elst (17) blown motor 1st heat; Kelly Mac Arthur (17) Aus  team captain broken axle 1st heat and Josh Martinelli (14)  with a  racing incident causing  radiator problem.
A Special mention goes to young 11 y.o James Channing for stepping in as reserve to replace Scott Elst and to Brandon Campbell for loaning his car to Kelly Mac Arthur to finish the event.

Saturday night 6th saw the running of the Australasian Championship over 2 heats and a final with first 4 cars across the line getting trophies. In front on a big Perth Motorplex crowd Geraldton sensation Cale Sotiroff took a resounding and deserved win from Johnny Terriaca and 1st NZ across the line Jamie Larson. In 4th place was the ever exuberant Rebecca Terriaca – with   quite a few stoppages and place relegations during a very hard fought feature race. All drivers put on a spectacular nights racing and the visiting Kiwi boys got a fantastic reception from the fans as they ventured up into the spectator banks to say hello after the event.

Still existing as the only International Junior Speedway event  in both Australia and New Zealand  the tournament  has produced Australasian Champions   Carl Dowling  Todd Waddell and Kye Scroop, who all continue in  luminary racing careers   and   NZ’s  Ben Finemore who went on to become  NZ Sprintcar National Champion. There is much work and dedication from organisers from both countries to make the Event happen but with such spectacular achievements and the opportunity of a lifetime it gives to our young speedway drivers the consensus from both sides of the Tasman Sea is that it will be here for many more years to come and a pledge to expand and extend the commitment.

Todd Waddell $10K Pretty Awesome - BCM

Todd Waddell in association with DiCandilo Steel City and Muir Motorsports would like to thank all the supporters of the #60 XXX McGrath foundation Pink Sprintcar for their overwhelming generosity during the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Grand Final Event held on the 5th and 6th February at Perth Motorplex Kwinana Beach WA.

The community event began when Channel 10 Sports aired great action shots of the exciting new look “Pink McGrath Foundation Sprintcar" including interviews with Team Driver Todd Waddell.

The story highlighted the reason for staging the promotion with Todd stating that many in the community …and especially the Speedway Community had been affected in some way and  it was the Teams  way of showing support and giving back something… and as he said ”everyone has a Mother a sister or a girlfriend”

Breast cancer is a disease that currently affects one in nine Australian women of all ages and backgrounds and McGrath Foundation continues to support Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.

During the campaign, there was an unbelievable response to the Pink Sprintcar Appeal on behalf of the McGrath Foundation with all the Pink Wristbands selling out by the end of Saturday night and adding to this the Personal and Corporate donations   - The Team is vey pleased to announce that it has raised in excess of $10,000.00 over the event for this very worthy cause in helping the McGrath Foundation support Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer. The kindness of all the Speedway Community, supporters and Sponsors in sharing the many personal stories and total strangers acts of generosity...touched all involved.

Adding to the enormous effort of the team was the sale of the Pink McGrath Foundation wings for over $2500.00. The front wing going to a generous group of F500 guys and the top wing signed by all of the competing drivers was purchased by Team Owners Mat and Julie Muir along with Mat’s mother Sandy in memory of several family members who had battled cancer.

Overall, the racing in the WSS stage was pretty tough with Todd giving it his all on both nights. The track conditions Friday night tested even the best of teams but with conditions more favorable on the Saturday, Todd managed to pull off a superb heat win for the teams supporters and for the McGrath Foundation much to the delight of all in the Di Candilo Steel City and WA Reticulation/TLC haulage Corporate Suits Todd had this to say about the weekend’s event... it was a very testing track on Friday something that myself and the team hadn’t experienced at Perth  Motorplex this season but we took a lot away from the night in car set up.

With more favorable track conditions that the team was familiar with on Saturday night it was great to reward all my teams efforts in what was a huge exercise that started over 12 months ago in getting the awesome looking PINK McGrath Foundation car onto the track for the grand finale of WSS. I would just like to thank all the companies that made donations and to all the speedway fans over the two nights that dropped by the transporter to make donations and purchase pink armbands.
